IBM

In 5G-MEDIA, IBM leads an effort aiming at integrating open source “serverless” frameworks, such as OpenWhisk into the 5G-MEDIA platform while adapting and evolving them beyond the state of art to deal with challenging latency and throughput requirements of the media centric applications. The resulting impact will be twofold: i) significantly reduce maintenance effort from the platform operator perspective; ii) allow application developers to quickly develop value added code while relieving them from the infrastructure management concerns.

Singular Logic is the technical Coordinator of the 5G-MEDIA project. Actively supporting the project, Singular Logic will also give to the project partners cloud resources for development, implementation and testing of the project technological advancements and will contribute to the overall exploitation of 5G-MEDIA platform.

OTE

The Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation S.A. (OTE), member of the Deutsche Telekom (DT) Group of Companies, is the incumbent telecommunications provider in Greece. OTE offers its customers a wide range of technologically advanced services such as high-speed data communications, mobile telephony, internet access, infrastructure provision, multimedia services, leased lines, maritime and satellite communications, telex and directories.
The role of OTE in 5G-MEDIA project is to participate in the definition of scenarios, use-cases and identification of associated functional requirements of the architecture. Additionally, OTE will provide its expertise in the analysis, measurements and evaluation of fixed/wireless/mobile technologies and their synergies, and the specification and setup of validation/ testing of such technologies both in test-beds and the field. Finally, OTE will offer its knowledge on the application of SDN and the investigation of the application of NFV in the edge mobile domain.

RTVE

RTVE is the Spanish Public Service Media and largest Spanish audiovisual group with more than 6,000 employees. It has the vocation of being the national reference media for its rigor, independence and plurality. With respect to broadcasts in Spain, RTVE has five TV channels (La 1, La 2, Clan, Teledeporte, 24 Horas) and five radio channels (Radio Nacional, Radio Clásica, Radio 3, Ràdio 4 and Radio 5). Besides, taking into account that RTVE is the largest distributor of audiovisual content in Spanish worldwide with a potential market of more than half a billion persons, it also has four international TV broadcasts in Spanish (TVE Internacional, 24 Horas, Star TVE HD and Clan Internacional) and one international radio service (Radio Exterior de España) with broadcasts in Spanish and in other six languages. Furthermore, RTVE website not only contains news, reports, surveys, opinion or all the linear and non linear content of its radio and TV stations, but it also looks for creative ways to tell stories thought its LAB (Webdocs, VR, interactive contents, etc.).

Technological innovation has always played an important role in the corporate strategy of RTVE. Some good examples of this have been all the trials carried out in Ultra High Definition since 2013 or the latest experiences in the contribution/distribution of audiovisual contents through IP. Mention must also be made on RTVE’s participation in two European H2020 projects: UltraHD-4U (finished in 2016) and VisualMedia (ongoing). In 5G-MEDIA, RTVE will offer a link between the content providers and the network innovations, acting as content and technology provider for the use cases 2 and 3 and contributing to the definition of new business models.

TID

Telefónica Investigación y Desarrollo (TID) is the research and development branch of Telefonica Group, a Spanish multinational broadband and telecommunications provider with operations in 21 countries, more than 120.000 employees and 350 million customers,which makes it is one of the largest telephone operators and mobile network providers in the world.
From a technology standpoint, TID will bring its extensive experience in previous 5G projects, and work in the architecture and definition of the Use Cases. From a business perspective, TID will support the experimentation with its knowledge of the market and customer requirements learned from the operating businesses within Telefónica footprint.

UPM

Universidad Politécnica Madrid (UPM) is the former and largest of the Spanish Technical Universities, with more than 3000 faculty members, around 38.000 undergraduate students, and around 6.000 postgraduate students, covering mostly Engineering disciplines. UPM will contribute to this project through the Research Group “Visual Telecommunication Applications Group” (GATV -UPM). Such organization relies on a broad expertise in national and European funded projects, participating and leading multiple FP7 and H2020 initiatives. GATV-UPM’s main activities are oriented to audiovisual services, computer vision, and Future Internet technical innovation and infrastructures.
The main role of GATV-UPM in the project will be:
i) to lead WP4: 5G-MEDIA Open Repository of Network Apps, and develop media related network apps, ii) to have a strong participation, due to its experience, in the QoS and QoE cognitive control, iii) to take part in the use cases, especially in the immersive media and Open CDN for UHD and iv)To contribute to the architecture and technical dissemination activities.

IRT

IRT is a specialised broadcast and multimedia technology institute, jointly owned by the Public Service Broadcasters of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (ARD, ZDF, DRadio, ORF and SRG/SSR). As a non-profit making SME, IRT is dedicated to technical research and development for the benefit of the public, while also offering commercial services and products. A key topic is the collaboration with broadcasters on future smart and remote production solutions. 
IRT’s role in 5G MEDIA is to establish the link between 5G technology providers on one side and media companies as users on the other side. In the project, we are focusing on applying virtualized network functions and cloud services to use cases in remote production as well as in content distribution. Such virtualised infrastructures as provided by 5G can help to increase efficiency and flexibility. IRT will support to evaluate and validate the solutions provided in experimental and nearoperational environments.

Nextworks

Nextworks is an Italian SME which operates in the TLC sectors, collaborating with some of the major European manufacturers and operators.
The company has long-term R&D and standardization expertise in the area of 5G network control, SDN/NFV, network service abstraction and orchestration, virtualization, end-to-end control. This background translates into a unique offer of consultancy services (3rd party design and development, integration/validation, technical program management and training) which builds on a large base of knowledge and software assets (e.g. OpenDaylight, OpenStack, OSM, OpenBaton, ONAP), often complemented with multiple proprietary developments of NFV MANO elements.
In 5G-MEDIA, Nextworks will work on micro-Cloud platforms and the NFV MANO components for media service delivery, with focus on the Open Repository and the generic Network Apps for 5G-MEDIA. Nextworks will also lead the validation activities related to the High Demanding UHD over Open CDNs Pilot.

CERTH/ITI

CERTH/ITI is one of the leading Greek institutions in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) with extensive experience in numerous European and national R&D projects, counting more than 120 projects funded by the European Commission –at least 30 of them as Project Coordinator – and more than 100 national research projects and private sector consulting subcontracts. 
Our role in the project is mainly related to the immersive media use case, and more specifically tele-immersion applications, a challenging field that encompasses a multitude of technologies like computer vision, computer graphics, networking, coding and high performance computing. In addition, CERTH participates in the 5G-MEDIA SDK and API development and will focus on implementing functionalities required for efficient tele-immersive media delivery and consumption through 5G networks.

In 5G-MEDIA, InterInnov is the partner coordinating the Impact, Dissemination and Exploitation activities of the project. More in particular, InterInnov leads the tasks related to Dissemination, Communication and Community building and it is the main responsible for the collaboration with 5G PPP Association and associated projects.

BitTubes

BitTubes GmbH is a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS and was founded in 2011. BitTubes offers reliable and sustainable video streaming and app hosting solutions but
especially focuses its work on immersive interactive (mixed-reality) video experiences. BitTubes role in the 5G-Meda project covers the implementation of interfaces, front-, back-ends or any serverless application as well as the exploitation of the 5G-MEDIA results such as the 5G-Media SDK and Service Virtualization Platform.
