RTVE is the Spanish Public Service Media and largest Spanish audiovisual group with more than 6,000 employees. It has the vocation of being the national reference media for its rigor, independence and plurality. With respect to broadcasts in Spain, RTVE has five TV channels (La 1, La 2, Clan, Teledeporte, 24 Horas) and five radio channels (Radio Nacional, Radio Clásica, Radio 3, Ràdio 4 and Radio 5). Besides, taking into account that RTVE is the largest distributor of audiovisual content in Spanish worldwide with a potential market of more than half a billion persons, it also has four international TV broadcasts in Spanish (TVE Internacional, 24 Horas, Star TVE HD and Clan Internacional) and one international radio service (Radio Exterior de España) with broadcasts in Spanish and in other six languages. Furthermore, RTVE website not only contains news, reports, surveys, opinion or all the linear and non linear content of its radio and TV stations, but it also looks for creative ways to tell stories thought its LAB (Webdocs, VR, interactive contents, etc.).
Technological innovation has always played an important role in the corporate strategy of RTVE. Some good examples of this have been all the trials carried out in Ultra High Definition since 2013 or the latest experiences in the contribution/distribution of audiovisual contents through IP. Mention must also be made on RTVE’s participation in two European H2020 projects: UltraHD-4U (finished in 2016) and VisualMedia (ongoing). In 5G-MEDIA, RTVE will offer a link between the content providers and the network innovations, acting as content and technology provider for the use cases 2 and 3 and contributing to the definition of new business models.
