5G-MEDIA has recently participated to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 event in Barcelona, where representatives from Nextworks, Engineering, SingularLogic, Interinnov and Netas have showcased the “Ultra High Definition media distribution over virtualized Content Delivery Network (vCDN)” use case on-site, hosted at the 5G-IA booth.
The 5G-MEDIA demo has showed the orchestration through OpenSourceMANO (ETSI OSM) of media service chains including an UHD capable origin streaming server and media caches to be dynamically deployed in hierarchies at the edge of the 5G network.
The 5G-MEDIA presence at MWC has been very successful, with many visitors from industry and 5G research community. It has been a great opportunity to disseminate the intermediate results of the project, and make the community more and more aware of the 5G-MEDIA concepts and architecture. The MWC is a unique world-wide event that brings together all the industry related to 5G technologies and solutions, and the 5G-MEDIA demo visitors were able to use live the vCDN and consume UHD media contents in HD TV screens and mobile devices. Everything was running on-site on a portable realistic testbed, and the visitors experienced how 5G-MEDIA eases the delivery and management of customized media services in 5G networks. Among others, 5G-MEDIA had the pleasure to present the project and showcase the demo to Peter Stuckmann (Head of Unit Future Connectivity Systems DG CONNECT, EC), Pearse O’Donohue (acting Director for Future Networks DG CONNECT, EC), and Dr. Ulrich Dropmann (Head of Standardization Bell Labs CTO). Positive feedbacks were collected from all visitors, and opportunities for future collaborations were also generated.
